Our Staff
Selection of camp staff is the sole responsibility of
Crossways Directors. Crossways seeks the most highly
qualified college students, and in some cases high school
graduates, to serve on our summer staff in counseling,
support, and leadership positions. The majority of our staff
come from Wisconsin, some of whom grew up coming to a
Crossways Camp as a camper.
Hiring Process
Our staff undergo a rigorous application and hiring process.
Each applicant completes an application including essay
questions. Each staff member also submits two reference
forms filled out by previous employers, pastor, and/or youth
directors. Our full-time staff conduct interviews with
eligible applicants and check their references and verify
their job and volunteer history. Only those who fit the
mission of Crossways and have a heart for ministry are
offered positions. Upon accepting the position, summer staff
members sign a contract indicating their adherence to
certain expectations and submit a voluntary disclosure
statement. They are also subjected to a criminal background
check, a National Sex Offender Public Registry check, and a
State of Wisconsin Circuit Court Records check. Final hiring
is subject to satisfactory results.
Training
Our staff arrive in late May to undergo 11 days of training
and spend time preparing program and activity areas for
campers. Training topics include risk management, coping
with homesickness, team building, small group leadership,
Bible study, age characteristics, bullying prevention, daily
role expectations, positive reinforcement techniques, cabin
group dynamics, severe weather and emergency preparedness
and much more. During training we also build our summer
staff community and sense of team. A team that works well
together will strive to serve campers and their families
with excellence.
We have always taken the safety and well-being of our
campers—your children and family members—very seriously. Our
camps have an excellent reputation as safe and healthy
environments. Each camp follows all WI State and County
Health Codes and Fire Codes and is licensed and inspected
annually.
Camperships Available
Crossways wants to be sure that everyone can afford camp.
Financial assistance through Crossways is made possibly by
generous individuals and congregations who contribute to our
campership fund.
Many
congregations also provide financial assistance to members
who wish to attend camp at Crossways. We ask that
families first contact their pastor or youth worker to see
if funds are available. If congregations are providing
campership assistance, a
Church Campership Form indicating their payment or
payment via check or credit card is required from the
congregation. We will not bill a congregation without
this form.
Contact the
Crossways office at 920-882-0023 to request a campership
form.
